Why do we Learn?
Learning is something everyone instinctively wants to do, its not a forced habit but rather a natural one. School are designed to enhance learning about the world and other important aspects of life.
Its important to involve play with learning as it enhances interest in whats being learned. For example i remember multiple times taking field trips specifically to Helen Shuler Nature Center. as students we had the chance to learn about different plants and wildlife that inhabited Alberta, we would play games involving us being different plants, take walks around to see if we could find certain things (scavenger hunts) and were allowed to explore the building; which included many activities, videos, images and even animals. Its one thing to sit in a classroom and listen to the teacher talk about what a wildrose plant looked like but something far more exciting and interesting to be set free and search for it.
Learning can be seen through the act of play. Play is not something easily understood, many different theories have been made to understand exactly why we play.
The one that explains play the best is Effectance Motivation: including the tendency to investigate matters of concern, to master techniques or skills, or to engage fully in the environment in general.
