Central Nervous System (Cerebrum (Lobes (Occipital Lobe (Vision and sight)…
Central Nervous System
Cerebrum
Precentral Gyri
Location of primary motor cortex, and for voluntary movements
-
Lobes
-
-
Temporal Lobe
Primary auditory and olfactory cortex, recognizes objects words, and faces. Language comprehension, emotional responses, and memory
Frontal Lobe
Planning, thinking, decision making, memory, planning and initiation of those plans, and production of voluntary movements
Parietal Lobe
Processes sensory stimuli, conscious awareness objects, sounds, and body parts
-
Wernicke Area
At the temporoparietal left hemisphere and it controls speech comprehension and naming of objects and reading
-
Diencephalon
Thalamus
Paired structure made of several nuclei and processes all conscious sensory signals that can be toned down or amplified
-
Hypothalamus
Made of several nuclei and is the visceral control center of autonomic nervous system with help from brain stem. Maintains homeostasis. Emotions and emotional behavior with some involvement with memory
CNS Protection
The Meninges
-
Dural Sinuses
Channels found between endosteal and meningeal layers that receives blood and cerebrospinal fluid from subarachnoid space and arachnoid granulations
Subarachnoid Space
Part of arachnoid mater, and has blood vessels and cerebrospinal fluid
Cerebellum
Function
Obtains sensory information from sensory systems, spinal cord, and other parts of brain. Controls voluntary movement and posture.
Peduncles
Transports nerve impulses from brain, brain stem, and lower brain to other parts of central nervous system. Helps with movement and refines it
Brain Stem
-
-
Midbrain
Made of cerebral peduncles, corpura quadrigemina, and superior and inferior colliculi
Spinal Cord
-
-
Conus Medularis
Near lumbar 1 and 2, and is the tapered lower end of spinal cord
Anterior Root
Ventral root, and gives unconscious, involuntary muscle control
Posterior Root
Dorsal root, it carries sensory information central nervous system from peripheral nervous system
