Cerebrum
frontal lobe- planning, thinking, and memory.
temporal lobe- primary auditory and olfaction cortex.
parietal lobe- processes sensory stimuli.
Insula- primary cortex for gustation and viceral sensation.
occipital lobe- visual cortex.
precentral gyrus- primary motor cortex, pyramidal neurons.
postcentral gyrus- primary somatosensory cortex.
Broca- frontal left, produce speech and control motor movement of speech.
association tract- connect different parts of the hemispher
wericke area- speech comprehension.
commissural- cross one hemispher to another ( corpus callosum
projection- ascending and descending.
Diencephalon
hypothalamus- composed of several nuclei, visceral control center.
epithalamus- a nucleus, pineal gland that secretes melatonin
thalamus- compsed of several nuclei.
interthalamic adhesion
cerebellum
Equilibrium posture with other parts of the brain, control body movement.
three cerebral peduncles
suprerior- connect the midbrain to cerebellum.
middle- connect pons to the cerebellum.
inferior- connect medulla oblongata to the cerebellum.
Central Nervous System protection
dural sinus- is filled with blood
epidural space filled with fat and can not be found in the brain only in the spinal cord
Pia mater- very thin vascular layer capillaries
subarachnoid space and blood vessels filled with cerebro spinal fluid
arachnoid mater- thin layer of fluid.
periosteal layer and meningeal layer
Dura mater- tough, dense fibrous.
meninges has three layers
choroid plexus- net works of capillaries surrounded by ependymal cell
cerebro spinal fluid- produced by the choroid plexus in the lateral ventricles
spinal cord
Filum terminale- is the connective tissue, stabilize spinal cord.
anterior root- bring the sensory information to the body or central nervous system.
cauda equina- the most inferior bundle of roots resembles a horse tail
posterior root- take the motor information from the central nervous system to the skeletal muscle to produce.
conus medullaries- is the treminal end of the spinal cord.
Brain stem
superior colliculi- involved with visual reflexes.
inferior colliculi- involve with auditory reflexes.
midbrain- has cerebral penduncles and corpora quadrigemina.
pons- reticular formation nuclei and involved with autonomic behavior.
medullar oblongata- controling blood pressure and respiratory center.
