often stops enlarging at time of growth plate closure

lesion frequently asymptomatic, u discovered incidentally
may cause pain, fracture, and discrepancies in limb length. Symptomatic lesions cured by curettage
Polyostotic
may continue to cause problems into adulthood
If involving limb girdles, can cause crippling deformities and fractures
[Femur, skull, tibia, humerus, ribs, fibula, radius, ulna, mandible, and vertebrae most commonly affected]
[may progress to malignancy]
McCune-Albright syndrome
u. presents w/ precocious sexual development, most often in girls
skeletal manifestations managed as for other polyostotic fibrous dysplasia, whereas endocrinopathies treated medically.

[cutaneous macules classically large, dark to café au lait, have irregular serpiginous borders, found primarily on neck, chest, back, shoulder, and pelvic region]
