Allison Rose's Design Studio
Tools
Inspiration Station: The goal of this station is to provide students with a starting point that is less intimating. Most people have not worked with the tools before, so by seeing familiar media, I hope to capture their interest and encourage them to explore the studio space.
2D: The studio will include a typical artistic station that includes colored pencils, pens, crayons, markers, paint etc. Additionally various types of paper will be avalible as well
3D: This portion of the studio will include simple sculptural materials such as Model Magic and Legos. Additionally there will also be some paper to try and get students to think about how to transform something two dimensional to three dimensional.
Digital: There will be a set of computers installed with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to get students comfortable with the digital format
Creative Prompts: Posted throughout the studio will be a variety of potential project ideas, for example: "How could you visually represent the feeling of your favorite memory?"
Educational posters: In addition to the creative prompts, the walls will also be decorated with posters describing the elements and principles of art, various art movements, and a color wheel.
3D Printer: There will be two different types of 3D printers to accomodate the variety of experience levels.
LulzBot Mini 3D Printer
Ultimaker 2
Software: a variety of softwares will be available for multiple types of making.
My studio will feature an
Arduino Starter Kit
to help guide those who are unsure how to get started with the technology.
We will also feature
LilyPad
which will enable our makers to creatively design wearable objects and experiment with e-textiles
The
MakeyMakey
software will help beginners with experimenting how to incorporate found objects with technology
Sphero: My studio will include a variety of Sphero products to encourage the playful environment.
Sphero Bolt
Ultimate Lightning McQueen
Star Wars Set with Force Band
Fail Wall
Students across all subject matters frequently are afraid of failure as opposed to embracing it as a necessary step to success. In order to combat this view, I plan on creating a "Embrace your Failures" wall, where students can post pictures of their failed projects, as well as a little anecdote on how that failure led to success.
Narrative
The goal of my maker space is to combine the worlds of science and art, which most people view as separate entities. This will be achieved by giving students the opportunity to expand their media toolbox to include more advanced technologies.
