Nervous System
Senses
Exteroceptors - stimulus origin is our environment
--> skin and special senses (sight, hearing, taste, smell, and equilibrium)
-
Propioceptors - stimulus origin is muscle and their tendons, ligaments, and joint
-
-
Chemoreceptor - chemicals --> blood (nose, tongue)
-
Mechanoreceptor - touch, pressure, vibration, stretch --> propioceptors
-
Eye Components: Sclera, cornea, choroid, retina, lens, and iris
-
-
Gustation System (taste): consists of taste cells in mouth, cranial nerves, and gustatory cortex
taste buds w/ receptor cells --> 3 cranial nerves --> medulla oblongata --> thalamus --> primary gustatory cortex
Ear: consists of auricle, tympanic membrane, auditory ossicles, cochlea
cochlear nerve --> medulla oblongata --> pons --> midbrain --> thalamus --> primary auditor cortex in temporal lobe
-
Neurons
structural types: multipolar, bipolar, and unipolar
functional types: motor, sensory, and interneurons
major components: cell blody, nucleus, nucleolus, chromatophilic substace, axon hillock, dendrites and axon
