Nora Rathblott- The Odyssey Books 10-11
Book Ten- The Winds and the Witch
In the stories Odysseus is telling he and his crew go to Aeolus, where they stay for a month. Aeolus gives Odysseus a pouch of wind.
They sail and on the tenth day they see home. The crew is jealous of Odysseus and while he is sleeping they open the pouch Aeolus gave him and release the wind which blows them back to Aeolus.
Aeolus refuses to help them again because he doesn't want to oppose the gods.
They sail away and land at Laestrygonia where they meet a princess and she takes them back to the palace.
The King and people end up being giants. The King eats one man, and the giants throw rocks at the ships and only Odysseus's escapes.
They sail to Aeaea where Circe lives.
Odysseus explores and finds smoke coming from Circe's palace. On his way back he kills a stag for his crew and him to eat.
Odysseus splits his crew into two groups, one group, led by Eurylochus goes to Circe's palace.

Characters
Aeolus is in control of the winds and he lets Odysseus stay with him.
Circe is a goddess that helps Odysseus and his crew and lets them live with her.
Eurylochus is a man on Odysseus's crew that leads a group of men.
Elpenor was the youngest on Odysseus's crew and he fell at Circe's house and broke his neck
Book Eleven- The Dead
Odysseus goes to the stream Circe tells him to go to and he pours libations for the dead and makes sacrifices. Then they pray to Hades and Persephone.
Elpenor's spirit comes and asks Odysseus to bury his body which Odysseus says he will do.
The prophet comes and tells Odysseus that when they see the cattle belonging to the sun god, if they do not harm them they can still get home but if they do harm them the crew will die and his journey home will be very difficult, this fate is what is happening.
Odysseus talks to his mom's spirit and she tells him about how his family is.
Persephone sent women that were wives of warriors and many of them had had affairs with gods.
Odysseus talks to Agamemnon and he tells him how he died. He also talks to Achilles who asks about his son.
