Soon after the Christian humanists and Erasmus, others were calling for a need to reform. Ideas were printed off, such as court records, songs, and pictures. Citizens thought the popes spent a majority of their time with Italian politics instead of helping their commoners with their spiritual needs. The Church began the downfall of salvation, which means the acceptance into Heaven. The Church boosted the selling of indulgences, which led to the Modern Devotion. The Modern Devotion promoted the stressing of teachings, demoted the value of Church practices, and sought out the uncertainty of salvation.
