deontologists (deontology argues that types of certain actions are right…
deontologists
how to distinguish types of action?
e.g a person kills someone ,,,, morally speaking not all killings are the same kind of action
if person intended to kill someone this is what they wanted to bring about
different than if it was accidental or if person was defending themselves
whether something is right or wrong , it doesn't depend on its consequences
rather a action is right or wrong in itself
believe that morality is a matter of duty
we have moral duties to not do wrong
we have moral duties to do things right
two classes of duties
general duties we have towards another
e.g, prohibitions ; do not lie , murder etc
duties due to personal/social relationships
e.g, keeping a promise, taking care of kids if parents
all deontologists agree that there are times where we should not maximize the good
most deontologists argue that we don't have a duty to maximize the good, ,,, only a duty to do something for people in need
claims that we should each be most concerned with our duties , not attempting to bring about the most good
deontology argues that types of certain actions are right and wrong
deontology argues that types of certain actions are right and wrong
conditions determine what action preformed actually is
actions are the result of choices,,, choices are made for reasons and with a purpose of mind
we should judge whether an action is right or wrong by the agents intention
.......unless we know the intention behind it
