The Suffragette parties
WSPU
The WSPU was lead by Emmeline Pankhurst formed her own society because of lack of action the NUWSS movement had. From 1905 onwards the campaign became violent. They began using more aggressive tactics to get people to listen.
NUWSS
The NUWSS wore the colours purple, white and green because they were calm colours to oppose the violent image the suffragettes had. They campaigned for middle class women, property owning women. They protested peacefully.
The two main Suffragette parties where the National Union of Suffragette Societies (NUWSS) and the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU)
Why was this necessary?
During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, men in the UK had the right to vote but women did not.
Queen Victoria called the fight for women’s rights a ‘mad, wicked folly”
Many people, including women, didn’t believe women should be allowed to vote.

The right to vote has extended from the privileged, property owning men over 21 years of age to all citizens 18 years or older
Definition of Suffrage:
Women’s suffrage is the right of women to vote in elections; a person who advocates the extension of suffrage.
