Ethical Issues
Individual (Autonomy) Vs 'Good of Society' (Paternalism) nb: public health interventions easier to justify when the unhealthy behaviors affect others --> 'Harm Principle'
Spectrum of Paternalism:
- Compulsion = Force
- Coercion = Threaten
- Manipulation = Mislead
- Nudging = Frame things so as
- Incentivising = Make attractive
- Informing = Educate
Stewardship Model
- Aim to reduce the risk of ill health, ensure environmental conditions to promote health, reduce unfair health inequalties, pay special attention to children/vulnerable people
- Not attempt to coerce people to leave healthy lives, minimize threat to autonomy or democratic decision-making, minimize intrusiveness & conflict w/ personal values
CWF
Therapeutic? Right to refuse medical tx?

- 1st reduces health inequalities between different regions/SES
- 2nd possibility of reduced ill health through environ measures
- 3rd concerns the health of children (constitutes a vulnerable group)
Rejects that CWF interferes w/ personal life, coercion of ordinary adults. They do suggest in regards to consent that it should lay w/ local decision making boards to account for needs of each region

Informed Consent
Consent =
Voluntary consent of a human subject is absolutely essential for participation in an intervention. This means that the person involved should have the legal capacity to give consent, be a position to exercise free power of choice without force, fraud, deceit, duress, coercion ect
Informed = subject should be known to the nature of disease, duration of and purpose of the experiment, methods, risks and effects to health or persons from participation in intervention
