Environmental protection– the prevention of damage to the air, land, water and living creatures in the wider environment.
Dangerous Occurrence – A specified event that has to be reported to the relevant authority (RIDDOR: Reporting of Injuries, : Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995, UK).E.g. Lift collapse, explosion, accidental release of hazardous substance, electrical fire etc.
Accident– An unplanned, unwanted event that leads to injury, damage or loss.
Near Miss – An unplanned, unwanted event that leads to NO injury, damage or loss.
Hazard– Something with the potential to cause harm.e.g. Work at height, exhaust fumes.
Risk– The likelihood that a hazard will cause harm in combination with severity.e.g. Falling and getting injured.
