Plot
Book 16
Telemachus comes to the pig farm and meets his father and the swineherd. After Telemachus sends the swineherd to the palace to Penelope, Athena turns Odysseus to how he was before. He reveals his identity and plans how to kill the suitors with Telemachus. The swineherd comes back. The suitors knows Telemachus came back.
Book 17
Telemachus goes to the palace first and Odysseus with the swineherd follows. In the palace, Penelope hears about the story of the travel, and the story of Odysseus from Theoclymenus with Piraeus. Melanthius kicks Odysseus as he sees him, but Odysseus does not act. He goes into the palace and begs to the suitors. Antinous beats up Odysseus and Penelope wants to meet Odysseus. He postpones the conversation.
Book 18
Irus, a beggar, comes to Odysseus to take him out. They eventually fight each other and Irus loses. Odysseus warns Amphinomus and he takes the warning. Penelope comes downstairs and talks to his son, and Telemachus comforts her. Odysseus fights with Melantho the slave girl, and the suitors go back their homes.
Book 19
Odysseus and Telemachus hide all the weapons in the storage, and Athena helps them. Penelope asks Odysseus some questions, and Odysseus eventually tells his story and of Odysseus. Penelope cries, and Eurycleia notices that the beggar is Odysseus. Penelope says she would hold a contest to the suitors and marry the winner.
Book 20
Odysseus notices Penelope's true heart as he hears her pray. Telemachus scolds Penelope worrying if she does not treat his father well. Melanthius insults Odysseus again, and Ctesippus hurls an ox-foot to Odysseus. However the father and son endure it and wait until the time comes.
Book 21
Penelope holds the contest by Athena.Telemachus tries the bow, but fails. Odysseus signs him to stop. Then other suitors try, but they all fail. Odysseus tell his loyal slaves that he is Odysseus and tells his plan. Odysseus goes into the hall and ask for the chance. Suitors blame him, but Penelope tells him to try. He shoots all the axes and be ready for the fight.
Book 22
Odysseus first kills Antinous. Then he starts to shoot others. The suitors look for the weapons, but there is none. Melanthius goes to the storeroom and Odysseus and his people find him. All of the suitors eventually killed by Odysseus, and Odysseus also put the turned slave girls to the death.
Book 23
Eurycleia tells Penelope that Odysseus has come back home, but Penelope does not believe her at first due to so many liars before. When she tests Odysseus, Odysseus tells the story only Penelope and he knows, and Penelope recognizes and cries. Odysseus also tells his story about how he suffered for many years and they prepare for the next plan.
Book 24
Odysseus goes to the countryside to see his father. When he sees his father, he is about to run towards him and kiss him, but he tests Laertes first. Laertes recognizes his son and cries. They have a dinner together and talk about their stories. They fight with the families of the dead suitors. Athena stops them fighting and the peace comes.
