TISSUES
EPITHELIAL TISSUE
covers all the internal and external surfaces
in our bodies
as well as
encasing the organs
and blood vessels
Epithelial cells
are arranged side-by-side
in sheets
like the pieces of a puzzle
has almost no interstitial fluid
There are two types of ephitelia
Glandular ephitelium
specialised produce and secrete
particular substances
the groups
of constituent cells
are normaly found
clustered together
and are called glands
the endocrine glands
secrete their products
directly into the
bloodstream
Covering ephitelium
this ephitelia
serve a protective function
while some are in the form of a single layer of cells
others are several cell layers thick
MUSCLE TISSUE
is the predominant component
of muscles
its role is
to enable the movement
of our bodies
the cells in muscle tissue
are elongated and referred
to as muscle fibres
three types
striated muslce tissue
joins bones and
contracts voluntarily
cardiac muscle tissue
makes up the thick walls
of the heart
and contracts involuntarily
smooth muscle tissue
moves organs
such as the uterus
and the bladder
and contracts involuntarily
NERVOUS TISSUE
neuron
fundamental cell type
have a star-like appearance
with enlogated projections
glial cells
are cells
surrounding
the neurons
serve to support
defend and provide
nutrients for them
nervous tissue
is found
in the brain
the spinal cord
and the nerves
responsible
gathering sensory information
in addition
to transmitting
the information that it gathers
it also enables appropriate
responses to all possible stimuli
CONNECTIVE TISSUE
found distributed throughout
the body
primary role
of this tissue
is to provide
structural support
and to hold
other tissues in place
there are two types
connective tissue proper
specialised connective tissue
which among others, includes
Cartilage tissue
has a firm
but flexible consistency
which allows
it to act

is found in joints
the nose
ears
tracheal rings

Bone Tissue
main component of bone
strongest type
of connective tissue
due to the presence
of calcium deposites

Adipose tissue
main role
energy storage
and also serves
to insulate the body
is found
beneath the skin
surrounding
the internal organs
and in several other places

group of cells
same type
work together
in order
to survive
to efficently complete their functions
apart from cells
within a tissue
there are certain materials
(intracellular materials)
and fluid that fill
in the space between the cells
this fluid
is called
the interstitial fluid
all the cells
in our body
belong to one
of the four basic types
of tissue
nervous
connective
epithelial
muscular
