Biological Approach
Key terms
Physiological approach
Focus on biological make up, events that occur in our body which causes our behaviour. Focuses on the brain also include study of the nervous system, hormones and genetics
Medical model
Embodies basic assumption about the psychological approach e.g. Phineas Gage's brain behaviour (rod that went through his skull and went through the frontal lobe which affected his behaviour and he became a more aggressive person than before (he was kind and gentle))
Evolution
Used to explain the mind and the way we behave which changes over time as we have adopted to the demands of our environment
Natural selection
Genetically determined behaviour(inherited) which enhances individuals chance of survival and reproduction - passing the the necessary genes to the next generation
Cerebral cortex
Responsible for higher order cognitive functions - separated to 4 regions = frontal lobe, parietal lobe, temporal lobe and occipital lobe

Is the space between the sending neurone (presynaptic neurone) and the receiving neurone (postsnaptic neurone)where neurotransmitters are released from the vesicles and go to the receptors and the receiving neurone.
