I am Malala Session 3
:
Taliban were a fundamentalist group - made to create fear and terror. The radio man said that taliban were coming closer to Pakistan. He cast a big shadow and not for the better.
Malala prayed to her God about this. The man on the radio was just a voice - what they didnt know is that this man would take his views on the school further.
Earthquake happened - ran outside from school. Earthquakes happened alot, but this time was different as the shaking didnt stop. 8th October 2005 - 7.6 on the richter scale.
-
Help came quickly from TNSM - a movement for the enforcement of Islamic Law - A conservative Religious Group. A natural event such as a earthquake made people vulnerable - which made it easier for bad people to use fear for his gain
11,000 orphaned children. ENtire families were wiped. Many orphaned children were sent to live aboard
The military group said that the earthquake was a warning from God and that more was to come. They used to come and scare people who didnt follow them. Groups were extreme. Fundamentalist groups can have a huge impact of regions - they can declare war. They are forceful and often cause mass fear.
First Direct threat - A man with 6 elders claimed to be a Mufti and had a problem with the school ( that allowed females to get an education - they said it was blasphemy and then it was unmuslimic - What the mufti didnt know is that own niece was going to the school.
Malala became quite anxious - She was sent to a special school where boys and girls went and stuided the Qhran - It was a place from reilgious study - Nothing else. They learnt Arabic - so they could recite it. The children didnt know what the words meant, just how to say it.
Blasphmey is where you go against a religion - and is punishable by death in certain countries such as Pakistan
In the school - the girls considered it there safe place, and that inside its walls the only things that mattered was grades and awards
-
Malala was used to getting first place, and was shocked the one year that she only got second, Her dad told her that it is important to learn how to use.
May 2007 signed a peace treaty about polio vaccines and girls going to school. All changed - People had been taken hostage - The army attacked and caused many deaths. Mullah decleared war on the government. He huged people to stand up against the governement. The government ignored him. Malalas family decide to ignore this too.
Moniba is Malala's best friend and sat together at school. They would have little spats. Malala felt like she always took the blame for their little spats.
Malala noticed a sobbing sound coming from the radio - The woman were told to stop dancing, going to the movies. There were told to stop it or other earthquake would happen. They couldnt listen to music. Men should grow their hair and breads long. Women should stay home and go out in emergencies with a burqa and with a male relative.
Woman thought the man on the radio was wondered and had a crush on him. He also tried to tell females stop to going to school.
The man behind the radio was a high school drop out - he made threats againist men who spoke out againist him. He called them publically sinful.
He said that medical aid was bad and that they were set out to harm, He wanted them to donate money to make bombs and train militants.
He joined forces with the tailban - they banned woman from town. Watching tvs and movies were a sin. They set fire to tvs, dvds and movies in the town square. They learnt that the taliban were listening to people in their homes to see if they were listening to tvs. Malalas family moved their tv to the closet.
Orphaned children were sent to live in the Fundamentalist Madrassas _ a specialist school for military training.
