Mind Map Of The Unit
Median
For a continuous probability distribution, the median is the value such that a number is equally likely to fall above or below it.
-
Box plot
-
A simple way of representing statistical data on a plot in which a rectangle is drawn to represent the second and third quartiles, usually with a vertical line inside to indicate the median value. The lower and upper quartiles are shown as horizontal lines either side of the rectangle.

Quantitative data
Quantitative data are measures of values or counts and are expressed as numbers. Example the height of the students in a class.
qualitative data
Data can be qualitative or quantitative. Qualitative data is descriptive information, for example the colour of the hair.
-
central tendency
It's a way to describe the center of a data set. There are three measures of central tendency: the mean, the median, and the mode.
Mode
The number which appears most often in a set of numbers. Example: in {6, 3, 9, 6, 6, 5, 9, 3} the Mode is 6.
-
Range
The difference between the lowest and highest values. In {4, 6, 9, 3, 7} the lowest value is 3, and the highest is 9, so the range is 9 − 3 = 6.
IQR
The interquartile range, is a measure of statistical dispersion, IQR = Q₃ − Q₁.
percentiles
A percentile is a measure used in statistics indicating the value below which a given percentage of observations in a group of observations fall.
population
The whole group from which a sample is taken. A good example could be a tennis match you ask a precise number of people a question and that is the sample but the population is all the people that were at the match.
Sample
A selection taken from a larger group so that you can examine it to find out something about the larger group. Example: you ask 100 randomly chosen people at a football match what their main job is. Your sample is the 100.
raw data
Raw data, also known as primary data, is data collected from a source.
