3 States of Matter
Solid
Has a definite shape and volume and is not easily compressed.
Gas
Has a indefinite shape and volume and is easily compressed.
Liquid
Has a indefinite shape, definite volume, and it is not easily compressed.
Mixture
A physical blend of two or more components that can be classifies as heterogeneous or homogeneous mixtures.
Homogeneous mixture
A mixture in which the composition is uniform throughout.
Heterogeneous mixtures
A mixture in which the composition is not uniform.
Element
Is the simplest form of matter that has a unique set of properties.
Substance
Has identified intensive properties with the same composition.
Ex. Neon, Oxygen Chlorine, Ethanol, Mercury, Bromine, Water, etc.
Compound
A substance that contains two or more substances chemically combined in a fixed proportion.
