Pathogenesis
- Organism multiply inside macrophages
- Rhodococcus activate alternate pathway of complement and bind to macrophage complement receptor
- Phagocytosed by macrophage through complement receptor
- Phagosome and lysosome fuse, lack of acidification means bacteria survive and multiply killing host cell
- Large immune mediated response (self destruction -> granuloma formation - pneumonia)
