Opening Questions: What is energy and what do you know about energy? Can you recall any facts you learned about energy last year?
Guiding Questions: How can you distinguish between different types of energy? What would happen if we took away one of the types of energy?
Closing Questions: To wrap up, tell me what your favorite type of energy is and give me an example of that energy. What type of energy would we use to stay warm in the winter months?

Formative
Definition: formative assessments are quick and to the point, They are meant for quick checks of understanding and can be used to monitor if the students are understanding the material you are teaching. Formative assessment can be used in the form of an exit ticket, give me 5 check for understanding, or a short quiz.
Example: An exit ticket that has the students define a type of energy and an example of that energy.

Definition: A form of assessment that tracks student learning progress and if the student is on track with their grade level.
Examples: MAPS testing, I-station

Definition: this form of assessment measures whether a student can perform a task rather than a teacher made test.
Examples: Students having to build a circuit, instead of taking a test and answering questions about building a circuit.
