Cell activation of allergen-specific IgE stimulates the acute phase asthmatic reaction and mast cells bind to the surface

IgE binding occurs, antigen mast cells release bronchoconstrictor mediators together with histamine prostaglandins, platelet activating factor and interleukins.

Affects approximately 300 million people and children are affected more than adults

Responsible for about 250,000 deaths per year
