Improved shopping facilities were needed to: reduce crime, improve the envirnoment, compete with other cities, attracts employment

Development to encourage poeple to come back to shopping in the CBD include:

pedestrainising the area and installing CCTV to improve safety

providing a more attractive shopping envirnoment with new street furniture, floral displays and landscaping

the development of open street markets

improving public transport into the centre, e.g. park and ride

promoting tourism to encourage gresater spending, by making the nearby Old market area of the city into a conversation area

Bristol has two professional soccer teams, City and Rovers, and a rugby union teams

It is also the headquaters of Glourcestershire County Cricket

All these teams are developing their stadiums to provide a range of leisure and conference facilities and accomodation

Rovers plan to move to a proposed site on the ourskirts of the city

They aim to develop facilities attractive to a wider range of people than just sports enthusiasts

Bristol's youthful population means there is a bibrant underground music scene in addition to the usual range of nightclubs and bars

The Colston Hall has concerts and entertainment by major names in rock, pop, jazz, folk, world and classical music

The Bristol Old Vic, the Bristol Hippodrome and the Tobacco Factory provide a wide choice
