We need to look at LGBTQ teachers’ experiences because they are the people teaching our children and thus the future adult population and they make such an impact

I don’t have the same experiences as LGBTQ youth of color

I can use knowledge about this topic to do my best to support and advocate for any student

LGBTQ youth of color have many intersecting identities and we need to do the same for them as I explained in (1) and advocate for both groups

We need to know how to make learning environments safe for all students and teachers

I have also learned about different ways to make elementary school math queer

How to create culturally responsive education/pedagogy

I want to be a teacher that provides a safe space for all of my students and for my fellow educators

I can use this knowledge I gain about this topic support and advocate for almost any student

What legal rights do LGBTQ youth and teachers have in CO public schools?

I have heard some information about federal policies but I haven’t heard that much about state (CO) policies

Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) has had policy/guidelines in place to give and protect the rights transgender and gender non-conforming youth and teachers in BVSD public schools

What prompted the creation of these guidelines in the first place?

Do teachers know these guidelines exist? Why or why not?

What are consequences if the guidelines aren’t followed?

How can teachers/faculty be held responsible for guidelines they didn’t know about?

These people and communities deserve the same rights and education as everyone else

Can policy help fix what isn’t going well for LGBTQ youth and teachers?

The legal rights of the groups I mentioned are important to others because they deserve fair rights and it is just necessary to see all people as holistic beings

I want to be able to answer questions…

I think the document I read about BVSD’s policy has been changed a couple times (why?) because 2012, 2014, and 2016 are all listed on the document

I have an interesting perspective because I am white and heterosexual so I don’t have the same experiences that some of the authors of the texts I read do, but I also have taken classes about different cultures and teaching in socially just ways so I probably am more familiar with this topic than some people

My perspective from my ed classes is a valuable contribution because I can share experiences I’ve had in diverse classrooms

To someone who has never thought about this, I have more knowledge to share about it than they do

I can learn a lot from others’ life paths

These minority groups are important to the US ed system because they have often been overlooked and don’t deserve to be

The general public needs to respect these communities

My project can teach the class about people they may not know very much about

Help them receive the best education experience they could have

These lessons are valuable b/c they expand ones’ view of diversity and what it means to be human
