There are three levels of goverment
Federal
Federal goverments oversea the whole of Australia, They can oversea any disagreements between concils or states
Federal goverments look after things such as currencies, foreign affairs, defence and immigration
State
State Governerments look after things such as heathcare, education, state roads and police
Our State premier is called Daniel Andrews
Local
My local concil is Port Phillip
Local Councils look after things such as garbage collection, pets and buiding regulations
In Australia we use a system called the Westminister system
The Westminister system oraginated in England
We have a queen

The governer General represents the Queen in Astralia
The Governer Genral is Peter Cosgrove
State elections are held every 4 years and fedral elections, every 3 years
The governer general has to sign off on laws in order for them to be made real
The governer genral usally has to sign the law even if he doesnt like them
High Court
The High court is responsible for mostly fedral government
The High court consists of 7 judges
Before cases go to the high court they usually have to go through a lower court
