Assimilation: process of conforming to the ways of the dominant or majority culture for the sake of uniformity, the absorption of one's cultural and ethnic heritage into the dominant society
Enculturation: immersion in our own culture to the point where we assume that our way of life is "natural" or "normal"
Ethnocentrism: the practice of judging another culture using the standards of one's own; the tendency to elevate one's own culture above others
Ethnorelativism: acquired ability to see many values and behaviors as cultural rather than universal
Individualism: the degree to which individuals are integrated into groups and seen as interdependent or independent, individualism vs. collectivism
