Component 1 - Relationships
Key words:
Adultery - voluntary sexual intercourse between a married person and a person who is not their spouse.
Roles - Position, status or function of a person in society, as well as the characteristics and social behaviour expected of them.
Divorce - to legally end a marriage
Cohabitation - to live together in a sexual relationship without being married or in a civil partnership.
Commitment - A sense of dedication and obligation to someone or something.
Contraception - methods used to prevent a woman from becoming pregnant during or following sexual intercourse.
Gender equality - people of all genders enjoying the same rights and opportunities in all aspects of their lives.
Responsibilities - actions/duties you are expected to carry out.
Types of Family
Nuclear: a family group consisting of two parents and their children.
Extended: a family that extends beyond the nuclear family, consisting of parents like father, mother, and their children, aunts, uncles, and cousins, all living nearby or in the same household.
Single parent: a person bringing up a child or children without a partner.
Reconstituted: a family where one or both parents have children from a previous relationship, but they have combined to form a new family.
Nature of families
Children are considered gifts from god

Purpose of family
Mothers and fathers are expected to play important roles

Christian views
Christian views on cohabitation:
Sinning.
The ideal is getting married.
Christians believe in Chasity (keeping pure).
Catholics disagree strongly.
Sex should be sacred.
Baptist churches refuse to marry them.
Church of England Synod
you can get married in your parish church e.g. Angmering village church.
promised that everyone can get married in any of their churches.
However if you choose to remarry you are not allowed to be married at their churches anymore as its a sin and going against Gods actions.
They will allow mix faith marriages

Men and Women roles
When men take on the role of the provider, and woman take the role of the carer, this helps families to get on well together and get everything done:
pro equality
woman can still share their views and decide lots of things jointly, and as long the man respects his wife!
Woman have proved themselves in the workplace, and have much right to work as men do.
Some men have proven themselves to be good stay at home dads.
GALATIANS 3:27-29 --- "there is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male or female, for you are all one in Jesus Christ".

1 Timothy 2:27-12 --- "A woman should learn in quietness and in full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man"
1 Corinthians 14 --- "A woman should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in full submission, as the law says."
The Christian idea of men going to work while women stay at home to bring up the children is sexist and outdated.
The man is always in charge/ a leader - guiding his family and taking their wellbeing and opinion into account.
Buddhism

Unhappiness may prevent the couples from becoming enlightened.
Buddhists may feel divorce is the best option to stop suffering
cohabitation
There is no specific scriptures about cohabitation, so opinions can vary according to the culture.
There is no Buddhist obligation to get married.
Cohabitation is not forbidden or criticised in scripture.

Marriage outside the religious tradition
Religious dietary rules must be followed in the homes e.g. not allowed to have pork ect.
Inter faith marriage is when 2 people of different faiths marry e.g. Buddhist and Christian!
Catholic- the partner who is not catholic must agree to any children of the marriage being allowed to follow the Catholic faith.
Jewish orthodox- only Jews may marry each other in a synagogue (Jewish house of worship).
Christian orthodox- a marriage in which

Key words:
Chasity- the state in which a person does not have a sexual relationship until married.
Celibacy- when a person decides not to have a sexual relationship. e.g. in Christianity monks, nuns and priests take a vow to stop having sex or marry forever.
Promiscuity - when people have causal sex e.g. one night stand.
Contraception - a way of preventing unwanted pregnancy.
Thomas Aquinas
believed everything had a purpose
he came up with 5 precepts about the orders of life that you must follow:

- Humans should always worship to God

- all life is sacred and must be protected
Same sex relationships
Traditional view- marriage is regraded as the joining of men and women in church. therefore meaning same sex relationships are wrong and sinful
Pope Francis states that homosexuals acts were sinful, but homosexual orientation is not.
liberal view - some Christians believe that Christian teachings need to be adapted.
Anglican church of Scotland- have agreed to allow same-sex marriages in their churches but the final vote will happen in 2021.
Buddhists beliefs
In 1959 Thailand was made legal.
Dalai Lama was asked on his views about homosexuality:
"A relationship between 2 men is wrong. Some sexual misconduct is wrong as well."
Buddhists attitudes to homosexuality often reflects the society around them.
