Special Need within My Classroom
Observe each student's in-class performance
If I found a student who has a learning problem, I will first contact his or her parents to have a thorough understanding of the student's learning background.
I will then adopt some assessments to clarify and define the student's concern.
After collecting student's assessment data, I will come up with differentiation instruction to meet the student's need
If the differentiation instruction doesn't work, I will modify my lesson plan and focus on the focal points which the student doesn't understand.
If the modification still doesn't work, I will work with other teachers to think of other instruction modalities.
Monitor student's learning and make some fine-tunes for other lesson plans if needed.
Work with other teachers to create a specific learning plan for the student who needs extra supports.
Make some changes in the classroom setting to accommodate the student's need.
Ask special education professionals for specific supports while dealing with different subjects.
Adapt the curriculum after discussing with other teachers.
If the student is eligible for special education, adopting IEP (individualized education program) instead of following regular curriculum.
If at any point during the process of IEP parents disagree with the plan, they have the right to request a mediation.
Contact parents to closely negotiate with them about student's learning plan and arrange accommodations and services for the student.
Review and update the IEP timely and record student's learning progress
Provide testing accommodations, note-taking assistance, textbooks in alternate formats, assistive technology, hearing accommodations, etc. to the student.
Pass! If there's no special need student in the classroom.
