Point Source Pollution- a specific source of pollution that can be identified
Nonpoint Source Pollution- a widely spread source of pollution that isn't tied to a specific point of origin
Pesticides- chemicals designed to kill insects
Acid Rain- rain or another form of precipitation that is more acidic than normal
Eutrophication- over many years, the nutrients build up in a lake in this process
Water Quality- the degree of purity of water, determined by measuring the substances in water besides water molecules
Algae- photosynthetic organism that "loves" to clog up ponds/lakes when eutrophication happens
Dissolved Oxygen (DO)- the amount of oxygen dissolved in water
pH- the acidity/alkalinity of water represents balance between hydrogen ions (H+) and hydroxide ions (OH!) in water
Turbidity- measure of water clarity, the amount of sediment in water, and how much light can get through
Bioindicators- living organisms that tell about water quality or health of a water system
Sustainability- the ability to be maintained at a certain rate or level
Stewardship- the job of supervising or taking care of something, such as an organization or property
Potable- safe to drink
Coagulation- the action or process of a liquid changing to a solid or semi-solid state
