Constructionism is based upon the theory of Cognitive Development; created by Jean Piaget, 1936
Piaget's theory of cognitive development suggests that children move through four different stages of mental development. His theory focuses not only on understanding how children acquire knowledge, but also on understanding the nature of intelligence
Seymour Papert wanted to use what Piaget learned about children as a basis to form a new education theory.
The child's mind is constantly expanding and constructing new knowledge
This knowledge enables students to build more things and creating their own knowledge and understanding of new concepts and the world.
Papert believed that when students construct things; they simultaneously construct their own knowledge inside their heads.
Constructing can be done through the aid of applications. Students can create videos, vokis, wiki's, mindmaps, games, graphics, etc
