He was considered the modern detective story
He was born on 19 January 1809 in Boston
His father left the family when he was 2 years old
His parents were both actors
They return to the United States in 1820
His mother died on 8 December 1811
In 1815 the Allans together with Edgar went to live in Engand for five years
