SBCs OPERATIONAL MODES
SBCs can operate in one of three modes:
- Startup
- Normal
- Diagnostic
Startup Mode:
- State of the SBC at initialization or immediately following reboot
- If successful, will transition to normal mode.
- If startup fails, a critical error occurs, or the box is commanded to startup-diagnostic, the SBC will transition to diagnostic mode.
Normal Mode:
- Nominal Operations
- If a critical error occurs, the SBC will transition to diagnostic mode
Diagnostic Mode:
- Some processes in the SBC are suspended with the exception of those associated with collecting normal telemetry and performing software loading
- Enables the connection between an SSC laptop and the SBC via the console port
- Will transition to startup mode upon SBC reboot
SUPERVISOR SBC
- Is the primary controller component of the Ku Comm Unit
- Interfaces with ISS Command and Control Systems
- 1553 Connections to CCMDM
- Forward link decryption for Contingency Commanding and Telemetry (CCT) mode
- Exposed RS-232 console port allowing connectivity to Space-Station Support Computer (SSC). This connection can be used to load software onto the Ku Comm Unit
- Directly controls the Network Interface Cards
- Network Interface Cards (NICs):
- Provides connectivity to:
- APS-1(2) Gig-E ports (260 Mps max per APS)
- JSL Ethernet to JSL 1 and JSL 2 (90 Mbps max each)
-Ku Comm Unit to Ku Comm Unit Ethernet Interface (currently not cabled)
- The only way to power off the Supervisor SBC is to power off the entire KCU
MODEM SBC
A. Responsible for managing:
- The Ku Forward data links
- The Ku Return data links
- Configuring the Ku Comm Unit data input channels
- Virtual Channel (VC)
outputs
- Provides Ku Forward connectivity to Space-to-Ground Transmitter/Receiver Controller (SGTRC) at a maximum rate of 25 Mbps
- Provides Ku Return connectivity to SGTRC at a maximum rate of 300 Mbps
- Actual usable rate is 259.6 Mbps due to overhead
3.Ku-band Forward Link Control and Management
- Configure the forward link modem data rate
- Configure Ku Comm Unit Input Configurations for forward link virtual channels
- There are four virtual channels contained in the forward link data stream:
- G.729 (space-to-ground) Audio
- Contingency Commands and Telemetry (CCT)
- JSL 1
- JSL 2

B. Return Link Control and Management
- 103 Source Channels
- called inputs
- routed into the Ku Comm Unit configured for Ku down-link
Ku Comm Unit configured Ku down-link
- 45 from iAPS 1
- 45 from iAPS 2
- 6 video
- 2 audio
- 2 JSL
- 1 CCT
