For students with learning disabilities, control of metacognitive strategies such as planning, organizing, monitoring progress, and making adaptations often is underdeveloped (Kirk, Gallagher, Anastasiow, & Colemen, 2006). This is known as production deficiencies.
LINCS Vocabulary Strategy- A strategy that uses stories and imagery to help students learn how to identify, organize, define, and remember words and their meanings.
L “List the parts.” Identify the vocabulary word and key information.
I “Identify a reminding word.” Pick a known word that reminds them of the vocabulary word
N “Note a LINCing story.” Create a story that bridges the vocabulary word with the known word.
C “Create a LINCing picture.” Draw a picture that represents the story.
S “Self-test.” Check their learning of the vocabulary word by reciting all the parts of their LINCS.
