Quoting, summarizing, and paraphrasing
Quoting- You use this when you use the text exactly how it appears. You also you this to give credit to the author.
Summarizing- This is when you shorten the text. You only put the most important parts of the text. It is the main idea of the whole text. You do not include your opinion.
Paraphrasing- This is when you wright what you see but in your own words. Make sure you are not plagiarizing.

This is when you take someone else's work and call it your own. It is a form of cheating.
To avoid this you can add a direct quot and cite it, or you can paraphrase and still cite it.
