Tissues of Periodontium
-
PDL
Principle Fibers
Oblique Fibers
Larges and most significant fiber group, extends from cementum coronally to bone.
Horizontal Fibers
Right angle from long axis of tooth, from cementum to bone.
-
Alveolar Crest Fibers
Apical to JE, extends obliquely from cementum to alveolar bone.
Interradicular Fibers
multirooted teeth, furcation areas, crest of intrradicular septum to cementum
Transeptal
Extends interproximally over the alveolar crest, embedded in cementum of 2 adjacent teeth (its what is adjusted in ortho)
Functions of PDL
-
-
transmits pain, touch and pressure sensation

-
Cementum
-Calcified tissue layer that covers roots of the teeth.
-Varies in thicknesss (may feel like calculus)
-thickest at roots
-Thinnest at CEJ
-No blood or nerve supply

Gingiva
-
Gingival descriptons
Texture: stippling, edematous, smooth and shiny
Contour: Festooned, knife edged, bulbous
