CHAPTER 4: Generation of X-rays
Discuss:
(i) electron at cathode
(ii) electron collide at anode
(iii)X-ray at Cu
Component of X-ray tube:
-evacuated glass tube, filament & an anode
-filament (tungsten) (high heat resistance)
-target, Cu is most used
Production of X-rays:
Actual design of X-ray tube
1. Target will produce X-ray through Berillium window
2. Berillium window placed at direction at 6 degree from anode surface
X-ray spectrum
(a) continuous specttrum
(b)characteristic spectrum (importance)
use this to reduce Kβ & continuous graph
Kα-kβ Radiation
Kα radiation is energy radiated when electron move from plane n=2 to n=1
Moseley's Law
X-ray radiation is characteristic of the energy liberated during the electron ttransition
The characteristic X-ray frequencies (1/λ) increase regularly with atomic number Z
The wave number changed systematically with photon number when we changed the element.
V ^½ =A(Z – Z 0)
