Clandestine Laboratory
Safety
PPE, gas monitors, must carefully dismantle to make it safe. Sample items and then maintain chain of evidence.
Hand-held gas meters:
Monitor for hazardous fumes, gases, pH3, NH3(poisonous) & O2 level, must calibrate to determine if the environment is safe. LEL- lower explosive level
Equipment Calibration
Must be calibrated to standards, also applied in the field. Register all equipment & keep up to date on when calibrations are needed.
FTIR:
must check peaks are where they should be, do they match the standards, if not right recalibrate.
MS:
calibrated weekly
Sampling
At Scene of the crime:
Marquis
- ensure stored properly & in date.
pH Test
(take some out w/ pipette to avoid contamination)
FTIR-
calibrated?
At the Lab:
maintain storage conditions to prevent deterioration- QA: must maintain integrity, appropriate conditions, alarm & monitor.
Must demonstrate evidence has not been tampered with
Document Control: QC
Working best practice, major chargers are heavily contested- must demonstrate what we are doing. International & professional standards & community expectation. Say what you do, do what you say, prove it, improve it.
Must follow the process, must ensure cross training to get the right samples.
Client agreements, procedures & instructions. policies & guideline. Methods/SOP's, technical records. Must make records of all changes, changes must be authorised.
KEEP RECORDS
Clan Lab
Covert illegal operation that produces a controlled substance through the modification of raw materials. Uses improvised equipment.
Quality System
Management:
purchasing , tenders & contracts, documentation & document control, complains, control of NC, corrective & preventive action, control of records (test & quality), internal audits.
Technical:
handling & identification & traceability of samples, continuity, control of equipment, training, proficiency testing, reporting.
Audit:
sample storage, instrument calibration, reporting, monitor the effectiveness & make improvements if needed.
Standards
Statistical Techniques:
QC- known concentration, level of purity, where is the error occurring? can we isolate it,
Uncertainty:
the range of values within the measured value that can be said to lie with in a LOC. Record the lowest value. Where did it come from: balance, pipette, injector, detectors, software
