Adults spend an average of 70% of their time engaged in some sort of communication, of this an average of 45% is spent listening compared to 30% speaking, 16% reading and 9% writing.
Good listeners are often guilty of critically evaluating what is being said before fully understanding the message that the speaker is trying to communicate. The result is that assumptions are made and conclusions reached about the speaker's meaning, that might be inaccurate.

Active listening not only means focusing fully on the speaker but also actively showing verbal and non-verbal signs of listening.

I want to share an experience of my today's speech at class. I felt very nervous at first, but after I saw my classmates and Professors were smiling at me, also their eyes were looking at mine. I felt more confidence to speak on the stage. This is kind of non-verbal signs of attentive or active listening. For another example, my mom always feel angry that both my sister and me talk to her at the same time, she said she can't understand everything we are talking about.
