Differentiated Instruction
Process
The way in which students go about completing their classwork and participating in class activities to get a better understanding of the material at hand can play a significant role in their ability to retain information down the line during assessments
Different assessments for different students can play out differently because of a number of reasons that have to do with the students or how they were presented the information
Different students learn in different ways, which makes it helpful for students to be presented with the information that will best suit them in their process of learning the information at hand
Presentation
Whole class instruction
Whole group instruction allows for students to learn as a collective group and receive a solid overview of the material that will be presented in the upcoming unit. Whole group instruction allows for questions and discussion, which helps clarify any points of confusion for the students as well as provides a platform for students to share their personal views and insight
One on one instruction
One on one instruction is especially important for students who need more attention and help in certain areas of learning. One on one instruction allows a teacher to monitor everything about a student's learning process as well as makes them available for extra help
Small group instruction
Small group instruction can serve as a great way to focus on student's individual needs, while still teaching a collective group
Product
Continuous assessment
Assessment is ongoing, continuously checking student's ability to retain the material covered in class
Teachers are able to learn what they need to cover more and can learn from this experience for future instruction
Knowledge is continuously tested throughout the unit to ensure that students have a strong grasp on the information that will be assessed at the end of the unit
Direct Instruction
Alternative note taking
Alternative note taking can be a key strategy to use in teaching because all students learn differently. The way in which students take notes is an important aspect to how successful they are going to be when retaining the information
Traditional lecture
Traditional lecture offers students a direct overview of the information being presented and allows for whole class discussion and questions to be asked on points of confusion
