Why teach social justice inside the classroom?
The students that we are teaching will someday run our country and be the leaders of the nation. We need to instill in them at a young age the importance of equality and how to obtain equality in a very easy manner. Changing the way we teach to this new concept of “rethinking our classrooms” completely opens up the door for students to feel more prepared for the real world, feel like they have a say in what happens in our country, and even feel like they have the chance to make a true difference. (E.D.)
It is important to teach social justice inside the classroom because the students will face the world outside of school and will learn that “Activism” is a major part of it. Teachers are in control of the culture of their rooms, but they aren’t in control of the students anymore once they leave the class. They will live with the issues of this world, and if we teach them early on how the world works, they will be prepared for what it coming in the future. (A.C.)
Should you be fair or equal?
I believe we should be equal. Everyone should be given the same opportunity. This would help everyone to feel like a team and together learn and educate each other. (T.C.)
What does it mean to teach for equity and social justice?
It means recognizing the issues and making changes. As teachers we need to help promote opportunity in children’s lives and also reduce inequality. We can do so by beginning in the classroom. Teaching children to speak up, work together, and problem solve.(T.C.)
How can teachers bring social justice to the classroom?

Make what you are teaching relevant to what is happening in the world right now. (E.D.)
Create a classroom environment where kids feel their voices can be heard . (E.D.)
