"A shattered visage of lies" Irony- a powerful human can't control time.
"King of kings" Arrogant and powerful
"Look on my works" Stressed syllable-a tone of command, showing power.
"Colossal wreck" Human achievements are insignificant compared to passing time-time has more power than humans.
"Lifeless things" Art can outlive human power, but it cant immortalize power.
"Lone and level" Alliteration-emphasizes the feeling of empty space in the surrounding dessert.
"The chartered Thames does flow" The river flows freely, but is owned by someone
"Marks of woe" Great sorrow-lack of power and confidence.
This poem has the idea of showing the difference between first class, working class and poor. Showing how some are more powerful then others.
"Runs in blood down palace walls" Metaphor-they have to obey to the richest-unhappieness
"Exploding comfortably" Happens often-cliffs and nature obey-power
"Blasts" Aggressive and powerful
"Pummels" Strong, personification-making it sound alive-power
"Space is a salvo" Alliteration-emphasizes words
"Three of a kind all letting fly" analogy-soldiers described as cards in power-could also be the soldiers getting played by their leaders.
"Probably armed, possibly not" Aside-undermines severity of the statement.
"and he's there on the ground, sort of inside out" Dehumanize-victim more of an object.
