Membrane Transport
Simple diffusion-requires no cellular energy. General movement from high concentration to low concentration. Stops when equilibrium is met. Example: Osmosis
Facilitated diffusion-requires a protein the phospholipid bilayer to move large molecules, charged particles and things not soluble in lipids across the plasma membrane. Requires no cellular energy. Stops when equilibrium is met.
Active Transport-movement against a concentration gradient which requires cellular energy and a membrane bound protein.

Plasma Membrane
phospholipid bilayer-barrier involved in transport of substances in/out of the cell. Outer surface is hydrophobic inner surface is hydrophillic.
