Many (male) jobs essential for society to function were left vaccant in order to fuel the war effort.

'Inferiority of women'
1900's Darwinism: 'evolutionary inferiority' - males expossed to more 'natural selection' circumstances, women sheltered and not expossed to 'natural selection' circumstances, didn't develop survival and intellectual skills.
'Lack of survival skills' = required to do mundane tasks, e.g. cooking, cleaning, household chores, taking care of children.
Considered less-than in all areas: intelligence, strength, importance.

Problems with equality
Women wern't allowed to work in certain industries because they were considered not intelligent enough or not skilled enough.
