CELLS
Organelles
-
-
centrosome
-
centrioles acts in forming cilia, flagella, and mitotic spindle
lysosomes
spherical, membrane bound sacs of enzymes
-
-
-
-
-
-
ribosomes
-
free ribosomes float around cytosol, bound ribosomes attach to the rough endoplasmic reticulum

Plasma Membrane
-
structure
proteins
integral proteins - transmembrane proteins, spans across the whole membrane
peripheral proteins - not embedded in bilayer, only attach to the membrane
-
-
-
-
Exocytosis
-
Process
- vesicle moves towards plasma membrane
- vesicle and membrane bind
-
- contents of vesicle secreted outside of the cell
Endocytosis
-
Types of endocytosis
- phagocytosis - "cell eating" large particle engulfed by phagosome. phagosome combines with lysosome, contents are digested. possibly has receptors.
- pinocytosis - "cell drinking" plasma membrane folds, carries solutes via membrane bound vesicle. no receptors are used.
- receptor-mediated endocytosis - substances bind to specific receptor, enables ingestion by the cell. substance could be released or may bind with lysosome. uses receptors.
