Features of a Generalized Cell
Exocytosis
Receptor Mediated Endocytosis: selective substance binds to the protein
Phagocytosis: phagocytes engulf an entire cell or cell debris
Pinocytosis: takes whatever is outside the cell in
Golgi Aparatus
recieves proteins from the E.R. and sorts and packages it for export, creation of lysosomes, and plasma membrane growth
Nucleus
the control center, place of genetic information
Plasma membrane
acts as a barrier, also involved with the transport of substances into and out of the cell
Cytoplasm
inside the plasma membrane and outside of the nucleus, place where most activities occur
Ribosomes
produce proteins, part of an assembly line within the cell
Endoplasmic Reticulum
Smooth E.R.
site of lipid and steroid hormone synthesis, creates the cells membranes
Rough E.R.
site of lipid metabolism and drug detoxification
Lysosomes
filled with enzymes that breakdown biological material, acts like a recycle center
Cytoskeletal Elements
maintain the shape of the cell and transports materials with the cell
Peroxisomes
center to detoxify many types of substances
Mitochondria
powerhouse of the cell; site of ATP synthesis
Exocytosis
contents of the inner substances of a cell vacuole are released to the exterior through fusion
