Network connections are made using cables (wires) or radio signals (wifi) or telephone lines (modems) or satellite for long distances.
LAN Toplogies

- Connects all computers together via a short cable linking it to the bus
- Cheap to install
- Can be slow as all computers are using the same cable
- Will stop working if there's a break
-
Ring Network
- Connected to a loop of cable
- Can cope with a break in the ring cable as all computers are all joined together
-
Star Network
- A hub or a switch used at the centre of a star network
- Quite expensive to install
- Very fast as each computer has its own cable
- Can cope with a broken cable
