What is the purpose of education?
Station 1: Kipp Report- KIPP charter schools strive to "set students up for success in whatever life path they choose" by focusing on developing strong character and preparing for and completing a college education.

Station 7: Posters.
Two posters focused on the earning powers of college graduates: their median incomes are double that of high school graduates.

Station 6: Individual States. Alabama posted a notice in biology textbooks asking students to think critically about the controversial science topics they would learn about like evolution.

Station 2: Science Curriculum. One document presented biology curriculum in terms of understanding an memorizing a wide range of biological processes. The other focused on interdisciplinary and modeling a few science topics using math
Is the purpose of science education to develop computational thinking?
Or is the purpose to understand scientific processes?
Should subjects be taught in a way that they complement each other or should they be considered unique areas of study?
Station 5: Vocational Education. Highlighted a system in Germany where students can get paid to go to vocational schools and learn a trade.
Should the government regulate vocational training?
Should the government provide opportunities for vocational training?
Does education solely prepare you for your career?
Station 4: The Americanization of the Immigrant. One study wrote about the benefits of education because it "Americanized" the children of immigrants.
Is the purpose of education to create a uniform society?
Should people from different cultures be encouraged to assimilate and adopt American cultures and practices?
What does it mean to "cultivate a commitment to liberty democracy and equal opportunity?" It sounds similar to indoctrination.
Station 3: Purpose of Education 1950s, 1960s. One video questioned the indoctrination of children to be pro-war. One video highlighted the failure of "separate but equal" schools for children of different races.
Can we maintain segregation and equal opportunity?
Should patriotism be taught in school?
Should children be taught to question the government in time of war?
