Hero/Heroine
-Eilis; she is the main heroine in the film as she takes on the new adventure of America all alone. She takes it hard but eventually meets Tony and marry's him to live a happy life. In the end she goes back to America to be with Tony for the rest of her life
-Rose (small); Rose didn't want Eilis to waste her life in Ireland and with the help of Fr. Flood helped organise her trip to America, got her a job and a place to live. She plays a big part in Eilis's life as when she dies she doesn't tell her or anyone to keep people (especially Eilis) from worrying
-Miss Kehoe (small); she takes Eilis into her boarding house and feeds her and takes care of her. She praises her when she agrees to help at the Christmas party and when she gets excellent grades. She also trusts Eilis to have the room in the basement that has its own entrance
-Fr. Flood (small); He organises Eilis's trip to America, her job and her accommodation. When she is extremely homesick he signs her up for book keeping night classes to take her mind off home and when she gets excellent results he praises her. He is also the one that takes on the role to tell Eilis about the sad news of Roes's death.
-Miss Kelly (small); even though she is the main villain in the film she is also a small heroine as she at the end of the film pushes Eilis to go back to America and to Tony her husband but revealing that she knows her secret.
-Eilis's mother (mother); even though there is conflict in their relationship as the end when Eilis tells her mother about her marriage to Tony and how she is going home (America) the next morning she accepts her leaving and doesn't cause a fuss over it even though she knows she might never see Ellis again
Villain
-Eilis (small); she was deceitful to Jim and let him think she was free but in truth she was married. She let this go on the whole time in Ireland and in the end broke his heart
-Miss Kelly; she fires Eilis as soon as she tells her she's leaving and she also plays Eilis and revels that she knows her secret about Tony and her married life in America
