It is organised into departments, and each department has to have a particular job or function.
As there are different levels of management, there isa chain of command. Which is the structure in an organisation which allows instructions to be passed down from senior management to lower levels of management.

The longer the chain of command, the higher or bigger the organisational structure and the narrower the span of control.

Top managers are less remote from the lower part of the hierarchy.
Spans of control will be wider.
THE ROLE OF MANAGEMENT

These aims or targets will give the business organisation a sense of purpose.
The people who work in the business, will have something in common, which is having to work towards something.
ORGANISING
A manager cant do everything, therefore, the manager appoints and organises people and resources differently.
CONTROLLING
Managers must try to measure and evaluate the work of all individuals and groups to make sure that they are on target.
COMMANDING
Managers make sure that al supervisors and workers are keeping to targets and deadlines.
COORDINATING
To coordinate is to bring together. Different departments can be working away from each other, this is not a good thing since there will be little contact with each other.

ADVANTAGES FOR THE MANAGER
Managers cant do every job by theirselves.
Managers are less likely to make mistakes
Managers can measure the success of the employees more easily.
ADVANTAGES FOR THE SUBORDINATES
The work becomes much more interesting and rewarding.
The employees will feel more important
Delegation helps to train the workers.
despite the advantages, a manger might not delegate because some managers are too afraid that the subordinates will fail and the manager wants to control everything by theirselves.
