MATERIALS
WOOD
HARDWOODS - these would be ideal because they are water proof when they have varnish but are very expensive
BEECH - White to pinkish-brown in colour, close-grained, hard, tough, strong, warps easily
OAK - Light brown colour, strong, hard, tough, open-grained, corrodes steel screws and fittings
BIRCH - pale in colour with an attractive sheen. It is ideal for furniture making as it is durable and doesn't warp easily.
MAHOGANY - Pink to reddish-brown colour, fairly strong, durable, some interlocking grain
SOFTWOODS - these would not be ideal as they are not as tough meaning they could rot were with prolonged exposure to rain
CEDAR - Has a reddish brown heartwood while the sapwood is paler and ranges from dark yellow to almost white.
Grain is straight with uniform fine texture.

WHO IS MY USER?
My user is my dad. I chose him because he always wants to go outside and sit in the garden after a long day of work and the only chairs we have are a couple of 20 year old deck chairs which have no support
The reason I chose my dad as my client, is because he has had a bad back for many years and is always having to see doctors and chiropractors to fix his back, which it ends up costing him a small fortune. Hammocks provide great lumbar support for your back and can give you a good posture which will help his back recover faster than it would have with the old chairs
