Causes of WWI
Nationalism
A sense of common identity with a group that excludes other. Based on: Common language, culture, geography, history, ethnicity etc…
White British Subjects love Britain because it's the biggest and most powerful Empire in the world. Their Navy was twice the size of the next two largest navies combined . The British Empire was called “An empire on where the sun never sets” because there was always a British territory somewhere in the world with the sun shining on it.
Britain and France occupy 60% of the world. This is another reason why Germany thinks that its unfair.
Everyone had empires, you had to steal countries. Britain, France, Spain, Austria-Hungary, Turkey. Germany was late to colonization and kept getting blocked by Britain and France. This was a big reason in why Germany was so angry.

Militarism
Almost all the European powers now look towards Africa to colonize and expand their empires. This is called the Scramble for Africa (Germany, France, Britain, and the Dutch). Germany sneaks in and tries to take the country. Germany gets annoyed because the land was not split fairly.
Otto von Bismarck organizes the Berlin Conference(1884-1885) where many European powers met to discuss the colonization of Africa(Scramble for Africa). Their goals were to regulate colonization and trade in Africa, and prohibit the slave trade.
Germany wanted to make sure that European countries ha a strong and effective occupation in their countries. Otherwise, they shouldn't occupy them at all. Britain and Frace thought Germany only wanted to take greater control of some of their territory since Germany was new to the colonization game and didn't oblige to the act.
This is important because it creates a lot of tension between France and Germany, This also creates tension with Britain because they are not happy with the fact that they supported the Boers and then they just annoy Britain with the Berlin Conference. This adds on to Germany's bad relations with Britain and France.
Sclieffen Plan
General Alfred Schlieffen creates a plan to invade France through Belgium 8-1 (8 Germans for every French Man). They also want to take Alsace-Lorraine.
On August 2, 1914, Germany demanded Belgium to let their troops pass through their country to flank France's defensive positions. Belgium refuses Germany's offer. On August. 4, 1914, Germany Declares war on Belgium.

The 3 Cousins of WW1. Nicholas II, Wilhelm II, and George V, were all first cousins to each other and their common grandmother was Queen Victoria.
Wilhelm II, Kaiser of Germany. He was convinced he was the ultimate diplomat and would take over the world.
Nichola II, Tsar of Russia. Really controlled by Rasputin. After his failure attacking Japan Wilhelm is making fun of him. Not good.
